Keizersgracht 744
At one of the most beautiful canals in Amsterdam, near the Amstel, in the quiet area between the Reguliersgracht and the Utrechtsestraat, lies this beautiful listed monument of 380 m² with a particularly deep, south-facing, garden and an idyllic garden house. The building dates from 1698, and got its final appearance around 1880 with the straight cornice with four consoles. The garden house was probably also built during this renovation.
This special merchant's house has had many residents since its foundation. One special resident, worth mentioning, is Cabaret performer Wim Sonneveld who lived in the house from October 1943 to January 1956.
The house is currently divided into a ground floor duplex apartment, an intermediate floor and a double upper home, but is also ideal for habitation as one house.
The ground floor duplex apartment and the intermediate floor are in semi-shell condition and must be adapted to the requirements of the modern age. The double upper home has recently been completely renovated, with no expenses spared in layout and choice of materials.
Layout:
Entrance on the ground floor, enclosed porch with marble paneling and a beautiful door with etched window. The ceiling and wall of the corridor are decorated with ornaments and a marble floor of about 150 years old. The spacious and lazy staircase is at the rear of the hallway. The stairwell is very light due to the large etched windows on each floor.
The hallway gives access to the basement, the original kitchen with a middle room and the front room. In this charming kitchen there are still attractive authentic cabinets and kitchen elements. From the kitchen there is access to the covered terrace and the deep (32 m), sunny garden, which is also accessible from the hallway. The front room has an internal staircase to the first floor. The spacious cellar with central heating system and boiler is also ideal as a wine cellar.
The large garden (approx. 169 m²) has a beautiful south-facing position, which means that you can enjoy the sun at any time of the day. At the back of the garden is a very charming garden house with double doors in the middle, under a high, richly decorated top. Behind the garden house is a practical storage room for garden tools, among other things.
On the first floor is a beautiful, wide room en suite with a conservatory at the rear. The ceilings in this room are exceptionally high. The back room has a beautiful, original fireplace and the en suite doors and cupboards are still in their original condition. At the front, this room has a wonderful view over the Keizersgracht and the conservatory at the rear offers a beautiful view of the green courtyard. The high hall on this floor is richly decorated with ornaments. The toilet at the rear has a beautiful old washbasin.
On the second floor is, again, a beautiful en-suite room. Also in this room the beautiful en-suite cupboards and doors are still present and you will find an original fireplace in the front room.
Arriving on the third floor, there is a beautifully renovated 2-storey apartment with roof terrace. During the recent renovation, no effort has been spared to create a very attractive and luxurious apartment.
The hallway has a beautiful paneling and floor of Mutina herringbone tiles in brown gray tones. There is a guest toilet right next to the entrance. At the rear is the first, spacious, bedroom. Here too we find the Mutina herringbone tiles on the floor. Both the authentic built-in cupboards and the new cupboard wall offer plenty of storage space for clothes.
In the luxurious bathroom we find a large bath, walk-in shower with 2 rain showers and accompanying hand showers. The beautiful washbasin with two natural stone sinks gives this bathroom extra atmosphere. All taps, including the heated towel rail, are from the Vola brand and the pendant lights and fittings are from Buster & Punch.
The second, stylish bedroom is at the front. This bedroom also has spacious built-in closet walls. Separate toilet, a separate room for washing machine and dryer and an extra storage room under the stairs.
The beautiful glass sliding door from Rimadasio makes it possible to close off the bedroom floor from the living area on the fourth floor. Here you will find one large, high, open space where the beautiful beams of the roof construction immediately stand out. At the front is a very cozy sitting area with a special view at the canal houses of the Keizersgracht. The gas fireplace provides extra atmosphere. In the middle of the room is a large open kitchen with an island. The kitchen has a brown marble top and frame and is equipped with all desirable built-in appliances. Here too, the gas fireplace provides extra cosiness. At the rear is the dining area with subsequent access to a nice and very sunny roof terrace, facing south. This floor has a dark, herringbone, oak floor and an air conditioning installation.
